ANDRIS EGLITIS

Latvian, based in Riga
Born in Riga, Latvia in 1981. Lives and works in Riga, Latvia. Andris Eglītis’ form of expression can be captured in variety of paintings, sculptures and architectonic installations made combining oil paint and the wood, soil, sand and clay obtained on site at his countryside in Drusti, Latvia. His works represent the fascination with nature/human relationships as well as the perception of
reality and materiality in art. Eglītis has studied fine arts at the Art Academy of Latvia, Manchester Metropolitan University and I. Repin St.Petersburg State Academy. He is a laureate of the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (HISK) Gent, Belgium.
He has been taking part in various group exhibitions and held more than dozen solo shows in Latvia and abroad since 2000 and was awarded the Purvītis Prize in 2013 for his solo show EARTH WORKS in Mūkusala Art Salon (Riga).
Recently exhibitions include: Savage, open air exhibition in Druasti, Latvia (2020) Artificial Light, Pop-ff-art Gallery, Moscow, Russia (2020) Coexistence, Kisama, Helsinki, Finland (2019) “Fur Collar” Meno Parkas gallery, Düsseldorf, Germany (2018) Déjà vu. Contemporary Art from CEE Countries, Xindongcheng space, Beijing, China (2017); Long Picked Cucumbers, AV17 Gallery, Vilnius (2017); Roots and Plastic, Pop-off-art Gallery, Moscow, Russia (2016); All Mounds Can Be
Seen From My Window, Bunkier Sztuki Gallery, Krakow (2016), and the contemporary art festival Survival Kit, Riga (2017).
In collaboration with artist Katrina Neiburga Eglitis has created the installation ARMPIT (2015) for the Latvian pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale that was followed by ARMPIT California Edition (2016) at the Coachella Music and Art festival; WILL O’THE WISP at Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India (2016) The Nest Nest at Riga Biennale- RIBOCA1, Latvia (2018) and Plauground for accepting your mortality, Klosterruine, Berlin, Germany (2019).
